3. Lateral Ridge Augmentation:

• High Success Rates: Allografts typically have a higher success rate in grafting procedures because they are from a compatible source, reducing the risk of rejection.
• Eliminated Disease Transmission: Since the tissue is carefully screened and processed, there’s no risk of transmitting disease from donor to recipient, which can be a concern with other graft types.
• Reduced Surgical Sites: Using donor bone eliminates the need for a second surgical site to harvest bone from the patient, reducing overall surgical time and recovery.

Considerations:

• Healing Time: Bone grafts require time to integrate with the existing bone, a process known as osseointegration. This healing period can vary from several months to over a year, depending on the type of graft and the individual’s healing capacity.
• Alternative Options: In cases where bone grafting is not feasible, alternative implant techniques such as zygomatic implants or pterygoid implants may be considered. These implants anchor into the cheekbone or pterygoid bone, respectively, bypassing the need for extensive bone grafting.
