Dental
Bridge

Losing several or all of your teeth can be a real disaster. Fortunately, with the help of a bridge on implants, you can quickly restore chewing function and return the beauty of your smile. A bridge on implants is a fixed prosthesis installed when several teeth in a row are missing. In the lighting, turn on several crowns (dentures) that connect each other. Most allow you to restore teeth without installing implants for each missing tooth, but at least 2 implants must be installed.

At Dentist of Aventura, we offer high-quality dental bridge solutions designed to restore the beauty and functionality of your smile.

Dental Bridge
What is It?

This is an orthopedic structure consisting of 3 or more crowns. They are supported by implants screwed into the jaw bone. The bridge allows you to get rid of defects in the dentition, both in the frontal and lateral parts of the jaw. The material of the crowns for the bridge is selected depending on the clinical situation (zirconia, ceramics, or metal ceramics are used).

A dental bridge is a versatile solution for replacing missing teeth, offering both permanent and removable options tailored to your needs. Whether you’re missing a molar at the back of your mouth or an anterior tooth in the front, Dentist of Aventura offers custom-designed bridges to provide a natural look and restored functionality.

Types of Dental Bridges

At Dentist of Aventura, we provide a variety of bridge designs to suit your unique requirements:

  • Traditional dental bridges: Perfect for replacing one or more lost teeth, these are supported by crowns positioned on the teeth next to the gap.
  • Implant-supported bridges: We can attach your bridge with dental implants for increased stability, offering a more robust and long-lasting solution.
  • Cantilever bridges: Supported by a single adjacent tooth, this option is used in specific cases where only one side of the gap has a natural tooth.
  • Maryland bridges: These bridges are a conservative choice that does not require considerable tooth preparation because they use a metal or porcelain framework.

Implants can withstand increased chewing loads, evenly distributing them on the jaw; due to this, they do not collapse during operation. Unlike classic bridge prostheses on their teeth, which require systematic re-cementation, implants are implanted once and for life.

How Does a Dental Bridge
Work

When is it better to install an implant?

Installation of an implant allows to restore a tooth without the risk of bone tissue atrophy. A lifetime guarantee on a titanium rod and the virtual absence of complications make implantation a priority option compared to prosthetics.

Indications for implantation:

  • Destruction of more than 60% of the natural crown, defects of the root part;
  • Requires tooth extraction;
  • Loss of a unit.

Healthy roots are important for a bridge. The root system of the supporting teeth must be absolutely healthy to withstand the orthopedic structure’s load. Otherwise, caries, loosening, and destruction of the tooth unit will begin under the bridge.

Reasons for Getting Dental Bridges

A dental bridge on implants is recommended for patients if:

  • Several teeth are missing;
  • It is not possible to use your own teeth to support the bridge;
  • The supporting teeth are destroyed, have fillings and carious cavities, have been ground down for crowns, and have signs of mobility;
  • The volume of bone tissue is sufficient for the operation;
  • The patient wants to install a more aesthetic and functional prosthesis.

How is a bridge installed?

  1. At the initial stage, the doctor examines the oral cavity for plaque, tartar, caries, and gum inflammation. Then, the doctor asks the patient to fill out a questionnaire and refers the patient for tests.
  2. The patient may be referred for a targeted X-ray or a 3D scan. The doctor uses the image to evaluate the clinical picture and plan a treatment.
  3. The dentist sanitizes the oral cavity to prevent the development of bacteria and prevent the risk of infection of the tissues around the artificial root.
  4. If the volume of the alveolar ridge is sufficient, the surgeon installs an implant (if not, bone grafting is performed).
  5. The doctor then takes a jaw mold and sends it to the dental laboratory. The doctor creates a dental bridge attached to dental implants based on this mold.

There are two parts to a dental bridge:

Anchor crowns -To sustain the bridgework restoration, two or more dental crowns, referred to as anchor crowns or retainer crowns, are bonded onto the teeth next to the toothless gap.

The term “abutment teeth” refers to the two anchoring teeth. Natural teeth support a typical bridge; if the remaining tooth structure is insufficient, posts and cores may be used.

Artificial teeth or pontics – The artificial (or false) teeth fill in the missing tooth or teeth by being positioned in between the anchor crowns. A dental bridge may feature one or more points, depending on the clinical circumstances and the number of missing teeth.

Materials for the production of implant-supported dentures

Metal ceramics – A metal frame covered with porcelain. Crowns made of this material are quite strong (they can withstand chewing loads) but less aesthetic (the metal shows through), so they are usually installed instead of lateral teeth. They can last up to 10 years (subject to full compliance with medical recommendations).

Ceramics – As a rule, they are used in the frontal section to obtain a beautiful Hollywood smile (especially E-max products). They are quite fragile, so they are not recommended for use in the distal section. Service life is up to 12 years.

Zirconium dioxide – Zirconium crowns (metal-free) look natural, withstand high pressure, and do not deform, so they can be used both in the frontal section and on lateral teeth. With good care, they will last from 15 to 20 years, and with proper care, they will last for life.

Advantages of a Dental Bridge at Dentist of Aventura

There are several reasons for getting dental bridges at Dentist of Aventura:

Universality

The “bridge” can be used to restore any group of teeth – you can install both upper dental

implants and implants on the lower jaw and restore the front or chewing teeth. The method does not require grinding adjacent teeth.

Comfort

The orthopedic bridge-type structure feels so similar to real teeth that, over time, the patient completely forgets about the absence of teeth.

Prevent teeth shifting

When a tooth is missing, neighboring teeth can drift into the gap, causing misalignment and bite issues. A dental bridge helps maintain the proper alignment of your teeth and prevents future complications.
