Wisdom Teeth
Removal Services

Third molars, sometimes called wisdom teeth, represent the last phase of dental development. Wisdom teeth begin to grow at the age of approximately 18 to 25 years. During the growth of teeth, many people experience acute pain and mechanical problems with chewing hard food. There is too little space in fully formed jaws, and in many cases, wisdom teeth cause the formation of mucous membranes.

To prevent potential future problems, some dentists and oral surgeons recommend wisdom tooth extraction even if impacted teeth aren’t currently causing problems. At Dentist of Aventura, we prioritize your comfort and well-being. Our professional dentists guarantee a seamless, stress-free same-day wisdom tooth extraction at affordable cost.

What Problems Can
a Wisdom Teeth Cause?

What Problems Can a Wisdom Teeth Cause?

Below are some of the most common problems wisdom teeth can cause:

  • Development of pericoronitis – a pathology in which a “hood” is formed. It contains an accumulation of harmful bacteria. In this case, a person experiences severe pain while chewing.
  • Appearance of a cyst. At the eruption stage, the tooth grows in the direction of minimal resistance. In certain cases, its roots can grow into the maxillary sinus cavity. As a result, the newly formed cyst becomes infected, an inflammatory process develops, and the person experiences severe toothache.
  • Inappropriate position in the row. There is a risk that the growing “eight” will displace adjacent teeth. This is fraught with malocclusion and deformation of nearby teeth.
  • Development of caries. Ensuring proper hygiene of third molars is not easy, as they are located deep in the oral cavity.
  • Partial eruption (retention). In this case, wisdom teeth act as a kind of catalyst for gum inflammation and cause diseases of adjacent teeth.

When are Wisdom
Teeth Removed?

In case of infection or decay, teeth should be removed without delay. Wisdom teeth should be removed if they could damage other teeth in the mouth. If bone loss begins around the roots, these teeth should be removed. In addition, wisdom teeth should be removed in the following cases:

  • Pain caused by actions
  • Gum disease
  • Orthodontic reasons
  • Problems with dentures
  • Formation of a cyst

The upper wisdom tooth, which is partially erupted and broken, is aching and may need to be removed.

Should wisdom teeth be removed?

Dentists are sure that wisdom teeth should be treated and preserved if there are no direct indications for removal.

Here are a few reasons.

Firstly, an orthopedic dentist can use the eights to install a bridge, for example, in the absence of the 6th or 7th unit, or for more reliable fixation of a clasp denture.

Secondly, if the eight is pulled out, the antagonist tooth will move out of the jaw due to the lack of chewing load.

Thirdly, in rare cases, a healthy and suitable 8th can be used for replantation – it is placed in place of a previously removed unit. Removal of the pulp of the 8th tooth will be required.

What Can I Expect During
wisdom Tooth Surgery?

How is WisdomTooth Removal Surgery Performed?

The 20th tooth removal surgery is performed in cases where the tooth is embedded in the bone or cannot come out completely. The method of performing this dental surgery is entirely determined by the tooth’s location on the X-ray images of the tooth. In cases where the wisdom tooth is located in the gum and partial roots of the tooth are embedded in the jawbone, removing the entire tooth is usually impossible. In such cases, the wisdom tooth to be removed is divided into parts by the doctor and thus extracted.

Another method is to make an incision in the gum to remove the tooth. With this incision, the tooth is removed quite easily. Stitches are placed after the tooth is removed, and this part of the gum is cleaned. Sometime after the surgery, these stitches are removed. Such surgical operations are a specialty of maxillofacial surgeons. The duration of the surgery under local anesthesia depends on the location of the tooth and the number of teeth to be removed. People who have had wisdom tooth removal surgery usually experience bleeding in the area of the operation for some time.

You should not eat any solid or liquid food for the time recommended by the specialist so that the blood in the area of the operation can clot. After the operation, the area may become swollen and very painful as the anesthesia wears off. In this case,  the doctor will prescribe painkillers.

What should I do after wisdom tooth surgery?

During this time, you should refrain from:

  • Eating food that needs to be chewed
  • Mouthwash
  • Spitting up
  • Strenuous exercise
  • Drinking carbonated beverages

A blood clot forms in the socket where the wisdom teeth are taken to hasten the healing process. These actions can potentially dislodge the blood clot and reveal bone and nerves, leading to a painful condition known as a dry socket. If you believe you have this problem, you should immediately see your dentist.

What Should I Do After
Wisdom Tooth Surgery?

Care and Recovery After Removal of the Wisdom Tooth

During the first few hours, apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. No hot compresses (dangerous due to the development of swelling).

For the first few days, do not rinse your mouth, but simply take an antiseptic solution into your mouth. Hold for 20-30 seconds, spit it out carefully.

Brushing your teeth is mandatory the next day after surgery. However, it is recommended to brush the teeth adjacent to the extraction site with a soft brush, very carefully, trying not to injure the operated area.

  1. Chew only on the opposite side from the site of the extracted wisdom tooth.
  2. Drink, eat only food/drinks at room temperature. Avoid hard, tough foods for the first 3-5 days.
  3. Quit smoking for at least a week.
  4. Limit physical activity for 5-7 days after the extraction procedure.
